Joël Mesot has been President of ETH Zurich since 2019. He studied physics at ETH Zurich, from which he also obtained his doctorate, with a thesis on high-temperature superconductors. He spent several years researching quantum materials, including at the Institut Laue-Langevin in France and the Argonne National Laboratory in the US. In 2004, he became head of the ETH Zurich/Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) Laboratory for Neutron Scattering. In 2008, he was elected director of PSI and promoted to full professor. In his current role, he is a member of several advisory boards.
